Final Week Digital Fundamentals

This semester sure had it’s ups and downs for me not only in school, but also personally. I had a big move to live in Detroit by myself, started a new job working for the admissions office on campus, and also started attending classes again full-time. Lots of changes, lots of work, but also lots of success this semester, especially in the classroom.

Well this is the end for Digital Fundaments. And thus I am a little sad because I am just now starting to get a much firmer grasp on Dreamweaver, which was my most challenging part of this course. I think I have created a solid base for my personal branding to come. I quite enjoyed designing the business cards, letterhead, and though it was sometimes a pain, I really loved creating a website. I will certainly independently keep working on tweaking these items and also working out some more social media bundles as well for places such as twitter, facebook, and my blogs and such. I am quite glad that I had the chance to jumpstart re-inventing myself digitally because that was something I had planned on working on independently from school anyways. It’s always fantastic when two different things mesh together so well, thought it still didn’t lessen the blow that is a semester at CCS.

Next semester I plan on taking the following courses:

  • Art & Culture: Ages of Discovery
  • Foundation Drawing II
  • Survey of World Literature
  • Visual Communication I

I’m not looking forwards to my World Literature class, especially considering I have already taken two World Literature courses at my previous university… Why they did not transfer I do not understand… Oh well, I know the drill, after all I work in admissions and I see that pattern very often.

My plans for this blog are to expand it and continue to update it on a regular basis!

Also on a sidenote, thank you to my professor, Dan, for being so responsive, understanding, and helpful this semester! Have a fantastic break!

Also here is a preview of my website! This page is the artist’s statement.

Week Fourteen Digital Fundamentals

This week we were to write an artist statement so here it goes…

Though I’ve stated this before I must remind you that I want to be extremely hands-on in designing anything beautiful and functional that can improve the quality of life for people and the planet.

Thus in my works, whether they be purely for enjoyment or purposeful objects for daily use, I am inspired by my usually practical life, the astonishing nature the world offers us, architecture, and a vast variety of other sources in which I cannot even begin to outline. I find inspiration can be discovered in so many facets of the world and I thrive on finding them, especially in the most unexpected places. Due to the multitude of resources I turn to, as well as my design philosophy of being honest and green I utilize a variety of materials, usually being recycled items such as coffee sleeves and countless other miscellaneous odds and ends. Some may call me somewhat of a hoarder, but it is certainly not a habit that is out of control. And of course everything I save is put to use to create something bright, shiny, and new!

Imagination is a trait I have always carried with me and I believe it has crept into my soul. Expressing myself and being hands on is something held dearly to me and I find peace in creating and designing, especially independently from my academics. I find great joy in bringing beauty and even wonder into this world. My work is incredibly personal at times, and even when it does not pertain directly to me, I become extremely emotionally attached.

That’s not really what I wanted to write specifically, but I have been so focused on my main Product Design studio the past few weeks that the priority of Digital Fundamentals had to take a back seat. I am after all here at CCS independently supporting myself to study Product Design so those studios take priority sadly.  Also I was not working independently. I had a teammate I needed to not let down and an international design competition looming over my head. That work will be up sometime over break. Life is crazy right now… even aside from school it’s nuts.

Week Thirteen {Point Five} Digital Fundamentals

Upon looking at my business card and logo again I decided to make some quick changes to make them flow much better with my fabulous resume and other marketing items. Here they are… again! Although now they do blend into my background much more on the blog, but that’s obviously a minor detail.
